Are you trying to get yourself into the festive spirit? Read on for the films you should add to your Disney Plus holiday playlist.
The Muppets Christmas Carol
It’s the Muppets, re-telling Dickens’ classic Christmas tale Muppet-style. Featuring the legendary Michael Caine as Scrooge, and a memorable soundtrack that you’ll still be humming when you cook your Christmas meal.
Disney’s A Christmas Carol
Okay, Dickens is on here twice. But that’s because A Christmas Carol is one of the best Christmas stories. Who doesn’t start off loathing Scrooge, then end up cheering for him when he changes his ways?
In this version, Jim Carrey takes on the role of Scrooge, bringing some of that iconic Carrey magic. Although I think this film gets dark and a little creepy in places, it is still high up on my holiday playlist.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
Disney delved into C. S. Lewis’ magical land of Narnia with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe back in 2005, but that doesn’t stop it from being an iconic Christmas film years later. And why wouldn’t it be? It has everything you want from a Christmas adventure, including snow, Santa, and the formidable White Witch.
Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas
As a child, I thought An Enchanted Christmas was underrated. Like Disney’s A Christmas Carol, it does have some dark moments, but for me it raised the stakes within the movie.
For those who haven’t seen it, An Enchanted Christmas takes place during the time that Belle is held captive in the castle. It provides us with a little more of the Beast’s backstory, and also features two really good songs: Stories, and As Long As There’s Christmas.
Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas
This is a cute anthology with three Christmas tales, each featuring Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and other familiar Disney friends exploring the meaning of Christmas.
No list would be complete without mentioning the Home Alone movies, particularly the first and second. You can find all Home Alone movies on Disney + though, including the new Home Alone movie Home Sweet Home Alone, starring Aisling Bea, Rob Delaney, Ellie Kemper, Archie Yates and Kenan Thompson. I haven’t got round to watching this one yet, but it’s on my list!
Bring a bit of Disney magic to this holiday season. It’s a great time to re-watch some classics.
